KAREN
DeAguero
FOR ADAMS County Commissioner

ABOUT
Meet Karen
Karen DeAguero carries a legacy of service that spans generations. With deep Hispanic and Indigenous roots tracing back to northern New Mexico, her family's commitment to community-building is woven into her identity, from her 4th great-grandfather Donaciano Vigil, who served as the second governor of the New Mexico Territory, to her mother, a civil engineer with the U.S. Forest Service for over 30 years. Karen grew up watching her parents lead with open hearts: creating memorials, building visitor centers, and advocating for small businesses and urban renewal. Those lessons, that true leadership means showing up for everyone at the table, became the foundation of her own life's work.
A third-generation engineer, Karen earned a B.S. in Environmental Engineering and an M.S. in Natural Resources and Energy Policy from the Colorado School of Mines. She believes that the people writing policy on infrastructure, water, and renewable energy must be equipped to understand the real-world consequences of those decisions.
For nearly a decade, she has put that conviction into practice, managing complex environmental remediation projects across Colorado and developing policy on environmental protection, electrical safety, and risk management. Her technical expertise is matched by an unwavering commitment to inclusive problem-solving, bringing companies, agencies, and affected communities together to find solutions that serve everyone.
Now rooted in East Arvada, Karen founded Arvada Voices, a nonprofit dedicated to government transparency, and serves on the community engagement board for Women in Renewable Energy and Sustainability (WRISE). She is running for Adams County Commissioner because Adams County deserves a leader who will:
-
Protect clean air, water, and land from pollution and climate impacts
-
Fight for attainable housing and smart growth that works for working families
-
Support local businesses, fair wages, and family farms
-
Expand access to mental health care and back first responders with the resources they need
-
Ensure every resident, in every neighborhood, has a seat at the table
